Advance Adaptors doesn't make an adaptor for the transfer case if I were to use the auto or manual that is mated to the 3.7.

Can it be adapted to an M5ODR2?

I think it's a lot wider than a 351w. The block is pretty small but those dohc heads are huge.

There is no way under any circumstance that I'd use your stock 1987 driveline. Even the R1 would make me nervous, but it's at least an improvement on what you've got in there now. The R2 should be up to the task if it can be made to work.

I have the stock 5spd manual in my '87.
Please don't do that. Those transmissions had more than they could handle with a 2.9.

Interesting, will do. Too bad the 3.7L wouldn't just bolt right up... :(
Advance Adaptors makes one for the 3.7 to a manual M5od.

If I wanted to swap in a 3.7 and also wanted a manual, what stock tranny would work w/o having to change the transfer case, etc.

I don't think you'll find one that'll just drop in. I think the 3.7 shares a bellhousing face with the 3.5 EcoBoost used in F150 4x4s but it's going to be expensive and require fabrication.

It seems they do have the same bolt pattern.

it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
This thread is from 2013...so...crazy how time flies...

This engine is even better then I hoped it was then.

Best bet is running a complete drivetrain from a 4x4....this presents some issues due to how low the late t cases sit in regards to ideal.

If your not using a power adder then consider this.

..the 4cyl Ecoboost with a sbf adapter is the best solution for my application. Because I have all of those parts. I have r2 and r1 options ...the power is better...but not enough to be the factor. Much easier to adapt though.

The r2....or whatever...435...zf.... t 19, ect allows easy use of doublers and np205.

There are a few companies with different variations ford gm and toy and dub using bells and or plates that can retain stock starter/flexplate with the cyclones. Most are expensive...

.but the 6r80 is a beast and very cheap.
