I am going to start this in an unconventional way because I imagine this category receives a shitload of the same topics. I bought a 1993 F250 with a 460 because I wanted more power than my 4.0 could offer. I bought my Bronco II in 2010 with money I earned at basic training. My F250 can pull a house, but my Bronco kills it in the power:weight ratio, so I want more power in my Bronco II!

All my research points towards forced induction.

How much should I pay to have someone install and tune a turbo system? I have reached the point in life where I would be ok with having someone do the work.

I want more power!

What is my best bet?

Drop a 302 in the Bronco 2 problem solved....or drop a 460 in the Bronco 2....err...better replace the front and rear axles and transmission and buy a really good sawzall, blades, and a welder LOL. Hey I mean if you do a NADA vehicle value assessment for a bronco 2 one of the engine options is a 460 LOL...damn I would love to find a Bronco 2 with a 460 HAHA!!!! Yeah that engine never made it to a full size Bronco whoever came up with that engine option list at NADA has rocks for brains.

I always thought a 2.3 turbo Bronco II would be titties. A light, powerful little offroader.. Plenty of room in the engine bay to work on it.. Add in a 5 speed and manual transfer case and it would be a great little weekend warrior.

It did so. My uncle has an all original 1979 Bronco with a 460.

I've noticed that as well. I'd be very interested to see how one stacks up against a 2.3 turbo with a Megasquirt on it, and cost per pony for each setup.

With the current cost of the 2.3 Ecoboost powertrain, even one from a salvage yard, AND the cost of the Ford control pack, a traditional 2.3 turbo would be much more affordable for most people.

I've seen a few of the 78/79 units with 400s, no idea if those were original or swapped. My uncle says the 460 in his is original. He bought it from his father in law, who I am told bought it new.

There is a Ranger around me with a 460 in the front. I think he built it for the drag strip, because it has a full cage, manual valve body, wide rear slicks. I see it once a year at the local car show.

There was never a Ford Bronco that came from the "Factory" with a 460. 78-79 came with either a 351 or a 400 . Special order??? Who knows, but enough money/connections maybe possible a special build. It is possible that the dealer did an engine swap on the new one, but from the factory, no. Since the larger full sized pick ups were available with a 460, the swap would have been an easy one, using factory parts from a pick up.
Late 70's was still in the era where a dealer could/would do swaps like that, but then computers took over and those went the way of the doo-doo bird.
