Thank you to everyone for the great ideas, I will be adding a strip of steel to the underside of the lid vertically, I will also be making a seal from tubing with a slice through one side for the top lip of the box, adding drain holes to the channel and a removable drain plug in the bottom of the box. I have a tendency to over think things, and completely miss things. Thank you for all the help

Sounds like you pretty much have it. One thing I had to do on the tongue box on the trailer was to make a vent near the top for air circulation. Even with drains and a weather seal, water would get in and never dry out.

I used a sofit vent made for housed to provide the louver to keep rain out, screen to keep bugs and critters out, and air circulation so the water would get out.

Surgical rubber tubing in a channel, along with a lid overhang has been used for operable skylight sealing, dunno if your construction makes that useable….
