Interesting the article is from Holley lol. I wonder when they (or any other big name aftermarket parts company) will start offering EV swap parts..

I'm still very 'meh' on the whole idea. I'm open to an EV as a commuter... but... to me... the terms EV and hot rod mix as well as oil and water.

Sure, they're quick. You literally can NOT beat the torque delivery of an electric motor.. just facts.. but.. how quick an EV is just isn't impressive to me.. and I feel like more than half the spirit of hot rodding is to be impressive.

Just like diesels... all these dudes are like " herp derp my 7 liter turbo diesel makes 1000+ ft lbs at 2k rpm.. how about you gas boy?"

No shit. That's what a diesel does 🤷‍♀️ do that same thing with a gas motor and then I'd be impressed.

yeah if only a electric vehicle could sound like a dual-exhaust V8, maybe even have options of big block or small block sound even.

That should be easy to do. They already have speakers in cars that play exhaust noises. Some cars you can even change the sound.

The new EVs play weird space ship noises when they are driving so people can hear them and not get run over.

That’ll be the next generations version of a rice burner with a fart box. “My Chevy bolt sounds like a tractor trailer” “My Tesla sounds like a F-1 car”

Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.
Now if somebody were to make an EV that brays like a donkey, then I may have to reconsider my strong conviction to not buy an EV.

I'd either want the Jetsons car sound or a big wet fart sound.

Nah, tie fighter would suck. They only sound cool in the movies due to dopler effect. Don't give me that, if you can believe that you would hear a tie fighter in space, you can believe that dopler effect would work too. In reality sitting in the cockpit of a tie fighter it would be a constant unwavering sound. Might start out as a roar, but would become a drone in short order.

Kind of like being around a jet engine at full military thrust. It sounds like a cool thing, and it's awesome at first, but once you've been listening to it roar steadily for an extended period you wish it would go away. I can speak from experience. I work in aviation. The hangar I used to work in was 50-100 yards from the back of a hush house where they tested F-15 engines, single engine going full military thrust pointed directly at our building. We were also located right next door, about the same distance, from the functional test facility for said aircraft where they would run both engines at full thrust, though fortunately pointed in a different direction.

Can't say that Jetsons would be much better, but for different reasons. That would just get annoying after a while. Wouldn't take long before I'd feel like I was driving around in a little Nash Rambler.

If I gotta go electric, forget fake engine sounds, just give me a good sterio.

Once again the doppler effect comes into play for what you were hearing. IIRC what you heard in the shows was a tie fighter approaching and moving away. That's not what its going to sound like sitting in the cockpit.

Honestly, I can't recall if there are any scenes in Star Wars that would accruately depict the sound of a tie fighter from the cockpit.

Doppler is the guy who invented weathermen not space sounds… or something like that.

Look up Doppler shift or Doppler effect, it deals with sound waves. Essentially it explains why a fire truck sounds different after it passes by than before it gets to you.

Same dude, Doppler radar is just a practical application of Doppler effect.
