Why does it go to the right like that in Park??

Same reason my work yota does. Its a "safety" feature. Requires an additional step to get out of park.

OK, I thought so. I know back then, the T-Bird/Cougar with auto on the floor, the shifter could be moved out of Park without the key!!

Modern cars have double interlock. The key has to be on and the foot on the brake to get out of park. Our old rbv were predate to these safety features. My 84 b2 can be put in to any gear with out the keys or having my foot on the brake.

Why does it go to the right like that in Park??

There is a little finger that you move when you push the button that holds it of to the side.

It is so it can't be accidentally bumped into gear with the engine running.

My B&M uni-matic doesn't care, it is a straight shot from park to first. You have to push down on it to get it out of park, the Ford setup is by far more failsafe.
