My '96 has been giving me problems lately, with the engine off it will go though the gears no problem, But lately its been having a hard time going into any gear with the truck running. The clutch feels fine and isn't losing any fluid, and pumping it up dosn't help at all.

Weird thing is that some days it will shift just fine but like today I went to back out of my driveway and all it did was grind when I tried putting it in reverse.Tried putting it in first but it wouldn't go in so I ended up just rolling backwards down the driveway and pulling as hard as I could till it went it. and the rest of my trip every time I shifted it would just have to keep pulling or pushing the shifter till it went in. I know I'm gonna have to pull the trans soon and take a look at the clutch but what do you guys think? Oh and the fluid level is fine too.

Seconded on the pilot bearing. Pull it soon since that can eat up an input shaft if it hasn't already.

I'm guessing pilot bearing too. Can you take the inspection out and look at the clutch releasing while someone pushes it in? That would give you an idea. You could jack up the rear, put it in gear with the clutch in and see what happens too.

Pilot bearing.... Guess I'm gonna have to drop the trans this week, luckily my dad just picked up a 94 Ranger today so at least I have something to drive for work.
