Fed up.

I have a 94 ranger 4.0 4x4. While driving it acted like I kicked it in neutral. The transmission (A4ld) just didn't do nothing after that not in any gear. I bought one put it in and when I went to put it in reverse it took a few seconds then engaged I then put it in drive and an even longer hesitation then it don't want to shift into drive or overdrive. Any ideas

What color is the fluid? Does it smell burnt?
