John Deere cornhead grease is awesome for this. It is low temp so it turns into something resembling oil fairly easily but congeals back to grease so it doesn't run everywhere when you are not using it.

85-140 is only 5 more thicker than 80-90, it should be like your normal old gear oil.
That's just something us city folk just don't know.

Alright so I gave the tiller a test run today, and the mystery substance in the trans didn't really seem to liquefy much at all.

I feel like I should get some kerosene, flush it, and refill with the 140w oil the manual claims it left the factory with.

I like the sounds of the cornhead grease but until I get some leaky seals I'm too lazy to replace ill probably stick with oil. Easier to drain & fill.

today I could of brought home a NAA, at auction for $2,000. Only passed on it because Im eyeing a 2000 for $3,000. same engine 134 4cyl but newer and is a 5 speed vs a 4 speed. The NAA did look good though. A not-running 720 deere brought $6000.

Dad is a case guy. He dad had a DC and a 811B. When dad was trying to get into farming in the 80's he was custom farming with a cream puff 1030. The bottom of the farm economy dropped out and he dumped it for what he owed on it shortly after I was born.

Anyway tonight's adventure:

Going to see about the 2000 ford tomorrow, talked to the owner today and I was right about the serial number tag, it is indeed a 172 instead of the original 134, so 48hp instead of 30. live pto & hyd. Need implants now, going to stick with stuff the stock 2000 would use, yes it’s got a 4000 size engine but the rear end is still the smaller stock 2000. Might break it if I try the 3-14 plow, a 2-12 should be safe. Going to be at the limit of my trailer & the escape. I’d love to use the ranger to bring it home but the escape has twice the motor; bigger brakes and cruise control. I may be a bit over the tow rating, I’m not sure what my 6 x 10 tandem steel flatbed weighs but the 2000 is just over 3,000 pounds.

Its home! towed nicely. garage is crowded now. I do wish it had power steering, the 4000 I grew up with (same basic tractor as a 2000, just a beefier rear end and a 172 engine instead of a 134) had power steering. since this had a engine swap to a 172 its a 4000 hp-wise. Love the escape as a tow vehicle, sure I burnt 1/2 a tank on the 100 mile trip but on the way back overdrive was locked out and I stayed below 55. Now I need a 2-bottom plow, 3-point tiller, 3-point blade, ect. Still like my allis though, going to put the woods belly mower back on it.

This is what was going on up by the terrace:

Neighbors were having a party the other night as I was fixing the lawn mower by flashlight. Crank the volume:

I could actually hear them moving south, pretty sure if I threw a wrench to the east I would have heard a yelp... so I kept the barn cat nearby in case I needed a diversion. :icon_idea:
