I'm doing a 4.0 swap from a 91 explorer into my 85 b2. I've got my new motor unbolted from the donor and electrical plugs are all undone, but it doesn't have any hooks to lift it out by. I just need to know where the factory lifting points are so I can yank this baby out.

Hook a chain from the back of one head to the front of the other. There's bolts and threaded holes everywhere.

Thanks man, that is what I figured I'd end up doing, just thought there may be another option. The power steering pump bracket looked like a good option.

Hell, I've even wrapped chains/ straps around exhaust manifolds.

Just make sure whatever you do, that it won't come apart...

Yup, I don't want broken feet or a busted 4 liter. If I can find the motivation I might pull it out tonight. I've currently got 5 rigs and 3 parking spots, so the sooner its out the better. I'm going to strip it completely, already put the nice visors in the ranger, hoping the center console will fit in the B2, taking the axles for sure, has great speakers, skid plates, and anything else that catches my eye.

The factory lift points are bent loops made of 12mm diameter metal rod that are bolted to the 10mm bolt holes on the tops of the exhaust runners on the cylinder heads.

IF there has been ANY service performed on the engine... replacement of valve cover gaskets those lift loops MUST be removed and it is RARE for any mechanic to bother to reinstall them.
