I was just wondering if a tranny from a 91 Explorer will work in a 97 Explorer?
Thanks Ranger Dan

Nope, won't work. The 97 trans is all electronically controlled, whereas the 91 trans is mostly vacuum controlled. AFAIK, there's no way to retrofit the electronics to the 91 trans. You wouldn't want to anyway, the 97 trans is much better than the 91 one.

Unless its a manual tranny in which case it would fit. Assuming that the donor is a 4x4 and the old one is a 4x4 or the donor is a 4x2 and the old on is a 4x2.
