Does anyone know where I can get a 1st gen.explorer radiator that is 2 core but doesn't have the trans. Cooler in it? All that I can find that are 2 core have the trans cooler, which isn't ideal but not the end of the world either. A part number would be great!!!!!
Thanks
Beef

Why the aversion to the trans cooler? Just add two barbs in the fittings, plumb it into your power steering return line, and add 2 extra quarts to the steering system.

That is a fantastic idea, would never have thought of that.

Because my power steering leaks as it is, I don't nees to give it the extra 2 quarts to leak. Lol I'm not overly concerned about the trans cooler but if I could get one without it I was going to.

Can the trans cooler, on a 5.0 exploder rad, be used as an oil cooler? I currently have 1/2 I.D. oil lines and didn't know if hooking them to it would starve the engine of oil since they are smaller fittings and possibly smaller ports. Also can the trans cooler handle the pressure? The highest I've had is 60 psi on new oil.

Most replacements are all for auto trans cause they work in both type of transmissions ,doesnt make since to make both on a profit bases, but hey they do come with the plugs for the trans cooler, any of the older ones that dont have a trans cooler I wouldn't trust not to leak real soon,

I don't like to use the trans cooler for other fluids just because it reduces the efficiency of the engine cooling. I have used an air conditioning condenser as a trans cooler and an oil cooler before though

It could go both ways.

On the 5.0 explorers, the rad outlet hose actually hooked to an oil cooler/oil filter hook up on them. It could be looked at as an engine temp maintainer, keep everything in balance and nothing gets hotter or cooler then it's suppose to keeping things consistent under the hood.

If my ranger had the space for the adaptor, you bet I would be running it.

My problem is, my rad is so far forward that I have no space for an oil cooler, at least not right now. I did reposition my efan and could move everything back enough to squeeze a cooler in there.

I do like the idea of using the trans cooler in my rad for hooking the power steering line to or better yet as a fluid resivor with a fill at the top and a drain valve at the bottom.

They call that an oil cooler and if my steering box didn't say otherwise I would have it on mine too. There was a model year break though, not all 5.0 Ex's had it.

The two row radiator ONLY came on Explorers with AC and automatic transmissions. Possibly only 4drs as well. Everybody else got a single row radiator.
