Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Another problem is that our government spent 7.5 billion to update infrastructure and put in charging stations. After nearly 3 years... not a single charging station has been built.

This is why I believe that state & the fed govt. are gonna have to back-pedal on their "everything EV in the next decade" plan.. the infrastructure isn't there, the willingness of the public isn't there, and if certain claims are actually true... there just isn't enough material in the ground to mine to actually make all these batteries.

I think we're gonna have a choice for much longer than these dreamers would like... only time will tell.

They always talk about "price parity" being the magic bullet.

If price is the issue then why are 60k+ gas pickups the 1,2,3 selling vehicles in the country?

EV's wont be a real option untill they are everybit as convinenent as gas (5 minute refills), operate in a similar manner (as in, similar range loss to IC when towing, in temp extremes, etc) and have proven reliability.

This isnt even touching on charger availabilty/reliabilty, public perception, politicalization, etc.

On Feb. 10, 1885, Edward J. Claghorn was awarded the first patent for a seat belt, was more of a "safety harness" but was first

Seat belts have been used for 100+ years, in many types of vehicles and airplanes
In 1959, Nils Bohlin, an engineer at Volvo, created the familiar three-point seat belt that now greets you when you open your car door

Seat belts have been mandatory equipment since the 1968 model year per Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208
But you didn't have to use/wear them :)

There is no Federal Law that seat belts must be used/worn, just installed by car maker if vehicle is sold in the US after 1968

New York State passed the first law in the US mandating the use of seat belts in 1984
It's totally a State decision in whether of not seat beats are mandatory
And States have different Laws about it
Some are Primary, so police can pull over a vehicle if officer thinks seat belt is not in use
Some are Secondary, so a police officer can not pull over a car because he thinks seat belts are not in use but CAN issue a ticket for no seat belts if he sees that after the stop

And this is SEAT BELTS and the government, just adding a few bolts and belts to an already designed vehicle

There will be no mandatory EVs for car buyers
There will be Federal Laws passed, and postponed, you can bet on that, that's what politicians do, thats what they are suppose to do

There is no "battle" between EV and ICE
People just make that stuff up then print it, silly, the down side of the internet

I wouldn't mind an EV, trouble is I live in a place where this thing called winter happens.
If you're garaging it at night, that's less of an issue. The biggest power suck for EV's in cold weather is warming the batteries up at the beginning of the drive cycle.

Driving more... if I had the budget I would look into converting a 2wd first gen for a dd.

Because winter and truck things it wouldn't touch my F-150 though. Winter as in cold and ice/deep snow.

Driving more... if I had the budget I would look into converting a 2wd first gen for a dd.

Just saying,100mi a day would do me fine, plug it in at night and then just throw itty bitty little tires at it once in awhile.

Garaging it is fine and dandy. It's the other 90 percent of the time I would worry about.

Say, I'm off visiting relatives in the redneckier parts of the state and it's going to be sitting outside all night, and where's the nearest place to charge it? That'll definitely change in the future but for now it's a ding in the negative column for this guy.

yeah. there are no chargers for at least 50 miles near my parent's house. so i would have to stop in uvalde and charge the car fully before driving up to their house and then ride with them everywhere we went

Charger availability sucks around here too, thats why I would just keep it for a daily beater where it wouldn't have to stray off the beaten path.

Just work to home, rinse and repeat.

You lost me on why you would need ride with them every where you went...

For me it would no worse than driving to my parents place:
Using Ford Mustang Mach-e with 250 mile range on std battery versus Ranger with basically same range (I get about 14 mpg on my 4wd Supercab with 17 gallon tank)​
Last service station is ~50 miles from their place - leaves 125 miles range to tool around once I get there (allowing for the ~50 miles back to the service station and 25 mile "reserve").​
Additionally:
You could break out the cord they use for the electric lawn mower and plug your car into the outdoor outlet. OK, 120v/15A is 8 times slower than 240v/60A, but it would put ~5 miles/hour. When I'm staying overnight, by morning there's 50+ miles added to the "tank".​
Yes, the Mach-e would take about 15 minutes longer to refuel (25 vs 10) but that is offset by the >$100 for price of gas versus $25 for electric charge. (I don't make $300/hr, so the time cost, while frustrating would be hard to justify)

What we need is more private enterprise involved.
Petro Canada (Cdn gas company) rebranded itself as "energy company" and put in chargers in a bunch of their "service stations" (main routes/cities where demand justified it).​

As IT engineer, I migrated users from drafting boards to CAD. So, I completely understand the stress it puts on John Doe - taking away the vellum and ink and replacing it with computer screen was massive change for the 30+ year veterans. But 40 years later, no one wants to go back...
