I had seen a little bit about the Consumer Reports report. I just leave it at that and prevent an argument.

Consumer Reports said EV owners most frequently reported troubles with battery and charging systems as well as flaws in how the vehicles’ body panels and interior parts fit together ... EVs from the 2021 and 2022 model years overall had more than twice the problem rates of internal combustion vehicles. The rates were more closely aligned in the 2023 model year: Those EVs had only 21% more problems than gasoline vehicles

I mean, one of those two things actually has to do with being an EV, and they're slowly getting it together.

If you take out the Bolt disaster as an outlier and Tesla's awful QC, and look at just 2023, are the numbers closer?

I'm not about to run out and buy an EV for $$$, and I'm certainly not gonna dump my truck, but I can probably live with the rate they're making progress.

ICE has been around 150 years. So has EV but not being developed like ICE. Give EV 150 years of development and it will be as good, probably better than ICE has ever been.

I've seen where approximately 3000 new car dealers have sent a joint letter to the White House pleading to ease up the mandates on EV's. Dealers just can't sell them...

Its funny cause all the EV groups were saying they just sent that letter because the dealers are afraid theyll lose money on oil changes and stuff.

Because ya know...dealers dont wanna sell everything thats on their lot

Seems like teslas the only one that can sell EV's and even their numbers are dropping.

Personally i think its because there is a pretty limited market for these things and the OE's went whole hog based on early demand...which is stupid considering EV's were a tottally untapped market and there is a certain set of the population thats been drooling for one of these since GM's EV1.

Then they blame price....ignoring the fact that the average EV is around the cost of the average gas powered pickup (possibly a bit less) and the F150, Silverado, and Ram are the top 3 selling vehicles in this country. So kinda kills that reasoning.

I dont think they will catch on for broad appeal untill they do everything as good as IC, and are as convinenent.

But of course the (this) government will keep ramming them down our throats....market be damned

The infrastructure is not yet in place to support the ev market. I dont think they did enough research into charging stations for them. And now they are way behind. Not to mention the price to charge. Seems that the charging stations are higher than gas at this point. They should have just left ev's as a niche market, instead of trying to force feed them to everyone. That will only create backlash against them.

There are things on the EVs that need lubed and serviced. While engine oil, fuel system, and ignition system work would no longer be a thing, there are still going to be things that need lubed and serviced. Plus things are still going to wear out and break. The argument that the dealers would lose out on income in the service department is bs.

The fact that many people aren't buying them is another thing.

I didnt even think of that for some reason...they still have brakes, suspension...etc. Just no plugs or filters

Also seems every vehicle ive ever owned the electrical system is what starts giving fits before anything (serious) mechanically.

You imagine the cost to trace a wireing issue on an EV?

Not to mention you are messing with high voltage and amperage systems.

A lot of the issues with ICE vehicles are electrical. Not like starters and coils... but like steering wheel control modules, radios, alternators etc.

And they are actually older than ICE but as of yet are still lagging in several key areas for a lot of consumers.

Having a choice is always better than having no choice

For the last 100+ years it has been ICE or build it yourself
I like that there is another choice

I like the choice too. But it really is not a choice when they mandate it.

It's great if you have the money to not only buy one... but repair it when it breaks.

Our car companies are losing billions on them... can't sell them and have a year or so supply already sitting on their lots.

Another problem is that our government spent 7.5 billion to update infrastructure and put in charging stations. After nearly 3 years... not a single charging station has been built.
