Engine swap

I'm getting ready to put a 302 in my 1985 Ford ranger. It is 4x4 and manual transmission. I was wondering does anyone know what type of transmission I need to get. I was told the original one won't be able to handle the torque in the 302.

The original one from your Ranger won’t bolt up to the 302. This should really be in the v-8 forum. I’m using an auto from a 302 Explorer in my swap. Not really sure what all the manual options would be other than a M5OD out of an F-150
