Hi! New to the site, so forgive me if this question has been answered... I just bought a 2000 Ranger xlt 4.0L. Of course, it needs a new engine... I have the chance to get a 4.0L engine from a 03 Ranger with just over 100k miles, will this fit correctly in my 2000 ranger?

Does it physically fit - absolutely; would I do it - probably not.

Your '00 Ranger has 4.0 ohv; the '03 would be a 4.0 sohc.

So, your '00 computer wouldn't quite correctly control the new engine, so you won't get the extra 50hp of the sohc.

And early SOHC 4.0 have known issues with cam chains - '03 is in the grey area, an early model year suspect, late probably fine.

Following along due to the fact that I blew a headgasket on my '99 OHV, I have a '98 Exploder with a 4.0 SOHC runs great but blown transmission. If I can make the SOHC work until I have all my swap stuff ready I will happily do that.

Both the SOHC and OHV were offered in 2000.
