I've seen them with well over 200k as long as they are well maintained they should be okay.

How many miles to repairs?

Anything from zero to 200,000 miles or more.

You simply can't know in general. You might get some idea for a specific vehicle from Carfax.

I have a 94 4.0 Auto 4X4 with 198,000K on it. Replaced water pump and intake gaskets only, Still runs VERY strong!

Auto Trans, is another story though.

From what I understand there are plugs up around where the shifter goes into the trans, they start leaking and need replaced.

See if the trans, is wet up in that area. If so these need taken care of. You DO NOT want to run that trans, low on fluid. Other then that as long as it wasn't abused it should last.

I would find out when the clutch was last replaced.

Just as more anecdotal evidence, I have the '93 4.0L 4x4 extended cab, and it has over 237k on it. I've never done major engine work (starter, radiator rebuilt), and the transmission has had the clutch replaced twice. Other than minor electrical gremlins, it runs great. I've replaced the leaf springs twice, but I think that's more my fault than the trucks ;)

my truck has 256k kilometers on it, thats just over 153k miles for you american boys :) and still runs like a champ. I'm only on my 2nd alternator because the truck sat all last winter with minimal starting and the brushes in the motorcraft one were screwed.

198,000 Miles (as of today)...

*Rebuilt Transmission - Leaking upper bearings/seals= dead gears
*Replaced clutch - I learned how to drive a manual transmission with this truck
*Repacked wheel bearings, new 4x4 hubs - Arizona was rough sometimes
*Replaced original factory starter - After 190,000 miles!!
