Coolant is a lubricant, anti corrosive, PH modifier, antifreeze, etc etc. Even if you live in hot climates that don't see freezing temps you should still be using coolant mixed at the proper ratio for the other properties. Pure water turns acidic very fast, acid eats metal. That's bad if you didn't know. Pure water is also a crappy lubricant.

I use Purple Ice in the intercooler system on my Lightning. Nothing else. Honestly don't know if it does anything, or is just a waste of money. But doing anything and everything to keep the intake temperatures down on a blown engine is a good thing.

My 8 Ranger, I've changed the coolant twice in the 21 years I've owned it. I just use good ole Prestone.

What Lightning?
The one that I use the Purple Ice in. OP asked about coolant additives. I answered with my experience. So happens the Lightning is the only thing I use the stuff in. Don't blow it out of proportion. I bring up my Ranger on LightningRodder all the time. Did so yesterday on a thread about the new Ford Maverick. Said it's FUGLY, and I'll keep my 98 Ranger, thanks a lot. Aside from the fact the Maverick used to be a car, not a truck. And the old car, especially the Grabber option (I had a red and black one), looked way better than this new FUGLY Maverick ever will.

You guys are weird. Me too. Forgot to mention, antifreeze is a no no at drag strips. That's why water wetter, and Evans type products are a good thing. And those fugly boxes are not a Maverick or a Mustang. I have a 1969 Motor Trend that has "Mustangs that didn't make it" and one is a 2 door station wagon I would actually buy or build if I was rich. On the cover was a mid-engine all wheel drive that looked like a Ford GT40. I think Ford vehicle namers are smoking crack and or have short memories.

How is it grounded? Does it need a lightning rod?
Where I live, it would. But it doesn't come out of it's garage unless the weather is picture perfect. That's why I keep the Ranger. For days when Mother Nature is throwing a tantrum.
