so im drivin down the road..just cruising...i look down and notice my tachometer says.....1200rpm!!....now i was doing about 65 in 5th gear...should be around 3k...hmm i wonder to myself..pull over and turn it off then start it back up....works fine...get in my truck today after it has worked fine for a few days now...i left it runing cuz i was only gunna be inside for a sec..get back in and it says it idling at around 300 rpm...hmmmmm...trun it off and back on...same thing...try turning it off and on about 10 times over the course of about 15 minutes...still its reading way low..so i have to wonder whats wrong with it now..thanks in advance for the replys!

check your conections on your passenger and drivers side coil packs, mine did the same thing because my connector tabs were broken and it came loose.

either the guage is going out, or you've got a problem with the ignition system. like offroad saiid check the connections to the coils, also have your ignition control module checked.

Is the check engine light on? My tach doing the same thing and there is a slight loss in power. The code is for SPOUT = spark output. When this happens it looses spark advance. The ignition module is bad. Make sure you install ALL module mounting screws.
