EGR connection with aftermarket cone filter?

K I've searched this for weeks, and I can't find my answer. I have a 2.3L 1991 2wd and I have put on a aftermarket cone air filter. I currently don't have my EGR connected, and I passed emissions (live in Utah) and it doesn't throw a CEL. In my reading of the EGR, I have decided that I want it hooked back up. I don't really see a difference with it on or off, but I do with the filter and want to keep that on my truck. Anyways, Here is my question.

How have you guys connected it to the intake with a cone filter attached? or anything other than the stock air box? Has it been done? The tech library doesn't have anything about how to do it, and I can't find a thread about it. All the other threads are about whether or not to keep it on or off, or if its important, and thats not helpful to me.

I have never worked on a '91 2.3l, but.......EGR valve is on the intake manifold, not "air box".

Yeah, the EGR has nothing to do with the air box and vice versa. That should not figure into this at all.

Ok so this is what im talking about and what I believe to be my EGR. I could be totally wrong in thinking its my EGR but there is a flexy pipe that goes from my exhaust to this valve thing and vacume lines as well. Its before the stock air box.

That's not EGR.

That is the intake heater. It is used to get the engine up to temp quicker in cold conditions.

So im fine without it? Other than cold starts, it doesnt effect my engine? Is the real EGR in the same place as RonD was saying on the 96? Thanks for your help!

The EGR on a 96 is actually on the upper throttle body and you should see a pipe connection from the lower exhaust manifold that comes up somewhat behind the engine or at the back of the passenger side and connects near the top of the intake. It is at the back end of the engine with a wire connector somewhere near the top or side of it.

If you passed emissions you probably don't have to worry about it at all unless you start getting a CEL with codes indicating it is not working...
