No.

Not only is it a 30 but it will also have drum brakes. The ring gear is about as big around as a coffee can.

Pass on it. The EB guys don't even want them. Not even to restore.

so i went and just double checked the truck out. and from what i read. a dana 30 is kingpin and 44 is ball joint. well the rear that's in it is ball joint. the diff cover looks like a 44 but not positive. i honestly think its a 44 but i thought the 66 didn't come with a 44. idk either it was swapped in or he dosent know the exact year of the truck.

All 30s are kingpin. All 66s came with a 30. If it has ball joints it has been swapped in or it's a 71 or later.

Well, I had to go look. What do you know... My EB is a kingpin... Weird that the knuckles are interchangeable with a D44 though. I was debating a set of reid racing knuckles for it and they told me it's almost a bolt on.

Knuckles are not interchangeable. If they were then all the EBs with 30s would have disk brakes by now. That's why all the EB guys swap to the 44, not for the strength, to be able to swap to disks.

So I did a little research on classicbroncos.com and there is a disc conversion for the D30. It's done by using parts from a '72 to '76 K-5 blazer 4x4 or K-10 4x4 pickup with the SMALL INNER BEARING that measures 1.78" instead of 2". How a balljoint and a kingpin are interchangeable I dunno, but that's how it's done by the Bronco guys. I dunno how strong a D30 is, according to jeep guys you can run 44s with spools.:icon_twisted: But for anything sensible (33" Max) I'm sure it would work fine.

That conversion only uses the spindle and hangers. You keep the stock kingpin knuckles. Not only is it fun to source the parts, but by the time you are done you will have spent more than the axle is worth. It's called polishing a turd. The ONLY thing a EB 30 is for is a restoration. Even then, only a die hard purest would want it. Everyone else upgrades to the 44.

I was at the James Duff open house this past weekend. (Notice my dented hood) Out of the 25 or so EBs there, only one had a Dana 30 and it was completely stock and trailered there.

You are right, a D30 is a turd. But, my '66 EB has just 42000 on the odometer and everything is original, except the tires. I took those off a few months back. Dryrot was an understatement. I have no intentions of offroading this truck at all. It will be used for a DD or driving around town. I have my ranger to tear the guts out of:)
