Trouble is right now ARB is the only aftermarket locker for the Ranger, and we all know ARB lockers are ridiculously expensive, hopefully other manufacturers step up with some options...or a kit with ring gear, carrier, and locker or limited slip as a kit option.

I may be mistaken here, so take this with a grain of salt. From what little information I've seen on the ranger axles for the new truck, I believe Ford welded the ring gear to the carrier in the axles that do not come with a locker. Now that may be only for the front axle but I would find that out for sure before you buy anything and find out the carrier can't be swapped. @adsm08, @Jim Oaks, or @19Walt93 might know or maybe not.

The open diff, that does not have the e-locker, does have the ring welded to the carrier.

The front diff I don't think it matters. According to the shop manual there are no parts (or even instructions) for servicing the guts. The available procedures are pinion seal replacement, fluid level drain and check, or axle replacement. That's it.

If Dana-Spicer made the axle, I wonder if they put that same axle in anything else. Would seem strange for Ford to be the only customer for a unique assembly from a third party.

Supposedly, Jeep uses the same family of axle(s) even if the exact model isn't the same.

Its an M220 also found in the Wrangler Rubicon, so yes its an axle used in other vehicles, which is what I mentioned in a previous post quoting from the ARB locker application chart...which says to source a ring gear and carrier assembly from a JL Wrangler Rubicon to use. Not sure why you would need the carrier though as that would be replaced by the ARB Locker if I'm not mistaken. However, the M220 is a Dana axle...and Ford decided for some unknown reason that welding the ring gear to the carrier was a great idea...probably to attempt to keep people from changing gear ratios, lockers, limited slips, etc.

Right, so maybe get a carrier from a Rubicon as well as the ring/pinion, then if the side gears match the spline count you can put anything in it that will go in a Rubicon?

Stupid extra step, but maybe there's hope. What lockers are available for a Rubicon?

Sadly... I can see people swapping 8.8's into the new Ranger, just so they can mess with gears!

These are the only ones I see that are marked to fit Ford Rangers. Doing some research based off these models might come up with something else that might fit.

So with that link the Ranger then must have a M200 rear axle instead of the M220 found in the Wrangler Rubicon. The M200 is found in the non-Rubicon models....but still the same principle applies, you'll need the ring gear and carrier from that axle.

So it would seem. All they list the front axle as is an aluminum clamshell. It's a Dana axle but no idea which one.
