Pics from over 4th of July weekend
Figured these would be worth posting (ran the trail from north to south)
1st night on the Dusy I spent across from Lakecamp Lake (not sure, but does that tree have cancer? lol)
There were granite domes & peaks like this pretty much everywhere along the trail
2nd & 3rd nights were at Ershim Lake (best camping spot on the trail, I think)
We stayed the 4th night at Thompson Lake. sorry no pics, it was night when we got there, and we split early the next morn. Wasn't a whole lot to see of the lake anyway though, I believe it's almost turned completely into a meadow.
Coming down Thompson Hill
Courtright Reservoir (spent our 5th night here)
View of reservoir from atop Chicken Rock
Trailhead sign at Chicken Rock (south end of trail)
Sun setting in the smoke & haze from the Nor Cal fires (coming down HWY 168)
The group I was with consisted of 6 Jeeps (5 Wranglers and a CJ-7), and me one Ford Bronco II lol
33 miles of rocks, rocks and more rocks (I'd rate this trail a little more difficult than the Rubicon Trail, not including Rubicon's famous Little Sluice box, which is bypassable). The entire trail is 9000 feet elevation or better.
Every vehicle in the group experienced an issue of some sort, ranging from broken leafspring shackles, a failed trackbar mount, jam nuts coming loose on the link of one guy's YJ coil conversion (resulting in the axle shifting to one side and messing up his fender), a smashed exhaust pipe (which then started rubbing on the front driveshaft), a dead alternator, two loose pitman arms, and NUMEROUS episodes of dead Optima batteries (apparently they don't do so well playing the stereo for 4-5 hours at camp )
If it weren't for a rock sneaking up and sticking my undercarriage on a right turn around a tree (bending my trans crossmember), I might've come away clean, but not quite lol.
Fortunately one dude had an onboard welder, so the shackle and trackbar repairs didn't present much of a holdup (the dude with the alt. had a spare too, if you can believe that ).
No one broke any axles (there were no D35 rears in the group, thank goodness). One guy's Currie HP 8.8/9" rear started leaking at the axle seal pretty bad though.
Anyway, hope you enjoy!
Edit:
Dang, Cardomain sure does know how to make a pic look like crap (jpg compression)
