I put a 302 zf and np205 in my 94 ranger with a ford 9" rear and dana 44 front axle and i had to get driveshafts custom made and the driveshaft shop told me that i had to use a 3.5" tube because of length and when i drive over something as uneven as a railroad tie (have them around my driveway) the driveshaft rubs the skid plate but i already trimmed it pretty tight to the gas tank if i trim it any more its gonna rub the tank.... I was thinking i could get a custom made tank to go under the bed where the spare tire was but i dont know where to get it done or if it will pass inspection without the original tank in it live in PA......thanks andy

I'd find another driveline shop. I guess they're not aware that tubing is also made in more thicknesses than one. They could have easily used a smaller diameter, thicker walled tubing to make the shaft.

The stock Ranger pinion is offset to the passenger side a couple of inches (along with the rest of the powertrain). Are you using a centered pinion rear diff? If so, that difference in pinion position is contributing to your problem in a major way.

Im running a ford 9" out of an early bronco, but yea they told me that if the shaft was over 60" long I had to go with a bigger tube

I guess my only other option would be to relocate the tank to behind the rear tire
