zippy little engine, only problems i had is that my temperature sensor seems to enjoy going out on me quite often, same with the valve, twenty bucks a pop so i cant completely complain about it.

What MPH do you shift at?

Exactly. I shift at 4,500-5,000 rpms on a regular basis; it's the only way to stay in the power band if you really need to get moving. Doesn't hurt a thing...she likes it!
Since I don't have a tach yet, at what mphs are you shifting?

3,000 RPM should be considered cruel and unusual.

peak power doesnt occure until 5,250RPM. even peak torque isnt until 3,750.

these engines really need to sing if they are to have any motivation.

Great truck, easy cheap mods to bump hp

I have a 2006 2.8L 5-speed; custom intake (planned), headers (planned), cat-back exhaust (planned)-- I know, plans... but I'm starting to make them a reality come Saturday.

not even close to the same engine. 98 is the 2.5 lima 2003 is the 2.3 duratec. Nothing is impossible, but it'll be more than just bolt in and go.

Wow. I thought I drove like a granny, now I KNOW I drive like a granny. I rarely hit 3000rpm just to shift. When I'm driving I'm always between 1900-2500. I find the noise as higher RPMs rather annoying... maybe I don't know enough about engines, but doesn't driving at higher RPM mean more gas and harder on the engine?

Lugging the engine by shifting way early is 1000 times harder on the engine than letting it rev when shifting.

I usually wind the heck out of mine.
I love the look on the faces of other drivers as I chirp 2nd and blow past them.:3gears:
Not as fast as my Mustang GT, but lots of fun.
By the way, in 7 years I have had no problems at all.

My credo
Fortune Favors the Brave
besides the weird rpm thing, that im used to it already the only downside ive seen on the 03 my mom has is that it doesnt feel like a truck engine, its more like a car engine, and the fact that sound s a bit too high and like a hair blower

If you have 4:10 gears your rpms will be higher
