I'm looking at a bronco 2 an i really hate the 2.9.I've always had better luck with the 4.0.I know if i use the 4.0 in the bronco I need to use the 8.8 rear end cus the 4.0 Puts out a lot of torq that the 7.5 can't handle as in rear ends.Any one have any other advise on if i do this I did find out that the 2.9 uses the same Catalytic converter and same header pipe.Pus the 2.9 uses the same 02 senser.I'm more fond of the coil pack then the distributor. No EGR on the 1990--92 4.0

Yes, for functional purposes all versions of the Cologne engines used in the Rangers (2.8, 2.9, and both 4.0s) use the same block. That means same engine mounts, same bell housing.

Factory crosses are getting crunchy but my D28 has put up with a 200hp 302 for 7 years so far.

No locker and I am gentle with the go pedal unless the wheels are straight.

Just now swapped out my stock 1350 mainly because it wouldn't bolt to a fullsize transmission. Never had a problem with it at all.

I popped a d-28 u-joint but that was after a winter of snowplow duty.
4.0 with the rest stock b-2, 4.10 gears, 31" tires.

Can you run a 7.5 rear end with a 4.0 engine

I was told the gears will not handle the torq.Just another questions of many questions

My B2 has the 4.0 and stock 7.5/D28. The axles and gears are holding up just fine, and I am not exactly gentle with it. I'm not regularly beating it, but I'm not gentle.

The maximum torque put on the gears is more a function of the gear ratio, the tire size, an tread.

A 29 inch tire takes less force to get it rolling than a 31, which takes less force than a 35. The more force needed to get those tires rolling the more load the gears will be put under.

The gears in the transmission or axles?

The 4.0 does make more torque than the 2.9, however the M5OD(if equipped) and 7.5 rear will handle the 4.0 just fine. I've been running a 7.5 with 4.56 gearing and a locker behind a 4.0 for years without issues.

:thefinger::thefinger: you guys are pussies. :thefinger::thefinger:

my b2 is on its 3rd 28 spline 9 inch with a wheezed out 4.0...finally got the m5od transmission because old 146's are cowards too... but it will still bust the 4.0 clutch....luk my ass.... luk should throw in an extra box o luk with every purchase...:D

apparently mini spools and spools are not nice to differentials...:icon_confused:

seriously though...the only concern for normal people pronouns is the a4ld and sub m5od transmissions....even then if driven nice and on stockish tires a 28 and 7.5 should live very long useless soccer parent pronoun whatever mall crawling lives.

I did something similar with 29s and a full cord of wood on the hitch.

I only blew two ears off the disc, but I cracked it down the middle too.

A 28 spline 9" is not much stronger than stock Ranger axles. They will break in the same places too.

I have a 31 spline 8.8 waiting for some welding and some rebuilding, which means waiting for some money, in the garage.

D35 search has not commenced yet, but I need to deal with my crumpled fenders before I put bigger tires on the B2. When I first got it I threw some 225/75/15 take offs on and the driver's front rubbed bad. But only in reverse.

gorilla flares for the b2...:icon_thumby::icon_thumby:.

i split the plate before, it wouldnt move at all when that happened. i only had a pic of this because i had to send it in and they brought me a clutch...i was able to drive on the springs once winched to flat ground.:icon_rofl:

yeah i listed that the 9 in was 28 spline specifically to that point.

but destroying 31 spline 8.8 axles was the reason i went to a dana 60's in my pickup...and that was more relative to your firewood scenario...i was asking way to much from the c clip setup offered by little sterling...even with load bolt cover and back brace

everybody thinks 9 inch is super strong and shit..and some are in oem configuration... and they are much better for me because they dont experience case/housing deflection the same way...but then other weird shit happens. the 9 inch is just easier to upgrade. the 8.8 is still cheaper and equally effective in my experience.

the 7.5 is much too weak for my ridiculous demands. but a welded unit with a truss and load bolts can take a ton of abuse before the r&p explode.

those are big additions. and it wont last long driving on pavement modified to such an extent....stock 4.0 and tires driven normally i cant see ever failing.
