They look spot on to me...

Did you put small dabs of lube on the backing plate where the shoes ride and lube the star wheel adjuster be fore assembly?

Crossed threads are tight threads.
I always check by making sure the adjuster works using a flat blade screwdriver behind the backing plate to turn it.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
and make sure you put the star wheels on the proper sides. If I recall, one is left-hand thread and the other is regular. If you mix them up, the adjusters won't work.

I forgot to mention this is why I make sure they work from the access slot as if the drum was on

Alright now I need to double check. FML. I believe I put the adjuster on wrong if there is a driver/passenger side. I haven't fully buttoned everything up yet, the sky took a piss on me as I was putting on the final springs. I just tossed the drum and wheel back on to get it off the jack before the storm hit. tomorrow I will put some grease on the mentioned spots and double check that star adjuster. the stuff I took off was basically fucked. The star adjuster had about 4 teeth left, it looked like a meth head.

If you just take the hold down springs off each side (round ones with the pin) the shoes will come off the backing plate far enough to put a little lube on the backing plate bosses.

Before you pull things apart to check the star wheels.... just rotate the star wheel buy hand upward and see if the adjuster expands. If not... you put them in the wrong side.

Does it matter if the star adjuster is in one way or the other? as long as the star adjuster stopping mechanism holds the teeth does it matter if you rotate it up to adjust or down? The adjuster I took off rotated in a downward motion to tighten the shoe slack but the one I put in is rotating up to adjust the slack (puts tension on the brakes). I'm still going to take a second look just to make sure. i just wanted to see if the direction of adjustment actually mattered.

With that adjuster lever... you what the star wheel to expand rotating up. If it was the other way... the shoes would move inward and loosen the brakes.

So yes... it matters...

yes it matters.
the adjustment happens when the arm pushes up on the star wheel. I type slower than Uncle Gump.

some star wheels have one-direction teeth, the arm can push up then easily skip back down to resting position.

Its no biggie, I've gotten the adjuster backwards a few times, it pops right out with some finagling.

Got both sides done. I rechecked and greased everything. I took the time to knock out the diff fluid and cover. living in a place that uses salt is very destructive on vehicles. I hate that Germany uses so much salt in the winter. Thanks for the info.
