does redline oil contain zddp?

i am a redline dealer (though i don't much care for it) and my redline rep was telling me that all redline oils contain zddp (zinc) even their motorcycle oils

the epa outlawed zddp in motor oils and therefore all oils containing it must be labeled "for off-road use only" like royal purple break-in oil is labled (i don't much care for RP either)

he swears that despite not being labeled for off road use. all redline oil has zddp

i make a habit of not trusting the words of people who stand to gain something. and as a rep (local redline franchise owner) who sells me my oil (the small quantities that i sell of redline) he stands to gain a lot if he convinces me that his oil has what i want

zddp isn't outlawed, it's just used in reduced quantities, so yeah he's technically telling the truth, there's at least a minimal ammount of zddp in the oil, same as most other oils.


edit: just did some internet article searching.

it's GF-4 rated oils that lack zddp, since redline makes no attempt to meet that rating, they can have all the zddp they want.

All the current gasoline categories (including the obsolete SH), have placed limitations on the phosphorus content for certain SAE viscosity grades (the xW-20, xW-30) due to the chemical poisoning that phosphorus has on catalytic converters. Phosphorus is a key anti-wear component in motor oil and is usually found in motor oil in the form of Zinc dithiophosphate (i.e. ZDDP)

much like with these limitations is the amount of zddp enough to properly protect my flat-tappet cam?

i just got off the phone with the redline tech dept. the person said that yes it does have zddp. but he couldn't speak to how much it had in any concentration.

i have a feeling that if even redline's tech dept. doesn't have this info, there is no answer to this question that could be considered "correct", "informed", or "accurate".

Tech people only know what the computer tells them that they know how to find. Now, someone who actually lab tested oils, they know stuff.

I have a local oil analysis lab that i often use, i am considering having them test it but the problem is that i have no baseline for what is an acceptable concentration of zddp for a flat-tappet camshaft

compare redline to rotella T 15-40, diesel oils are popularly accepted as having enough zinc for flat tappen cams.

but the rotella T has recently lowered its zddp too. i actually have always run diesel oil in my truck, it currently has mobil/delvac 15w40 in it

on a microscopic level steel is porous, those metals fill in the pores providing a smoother surface for metal-to-metal contact, also making for more even wear. both of which is necesarry for flat-tappet camshafts among the numerous other metal-on-metal parts of an engine
