Has any one on here ever replaced the head gaskets on one? The owner says thats all thats wrong with it. It's a 99 for sale in my area for 1200. I'm trying to decide of it'll be worth the trouble of buying it and fixing it. It's in good shape body wise and has a auto trans. Does this sound like a good deal or no?

hard to go wrong for 1200 if the rest of the truck is in good shape.

if the heads cracked, they're somewhat difficult to find... not impossible though. not a very popular engine, so I haven't seen many come into the shop.... but the only ones I've seen are for maintenance, and one had a head gasket a few years ago. can't remember the details of it though. $1200 is a pretty good deal, probably worth that in scrap and twice that in parts.

If its the heads I have a seized v10 sittin at my house from my 96 v10. I found a used motor and while I was out of town working I paid a friend to replace it for me. I could have those rebuilt if I get the truck:)

J- I own a V10 and it has a ton of power! It's just the fact that it's $300 a year to register it plus this is the second year in a row that the Cali DMV has required me to get it "smogged" I say "smogged" cuz I have a set of headers on it that allowed it to reach near zero emissions but it wouldn't pass "smog" because they weren't California legal stamped! Very infuriating! So it is setting registered non-operational. I am planning on moving out of California so this is a serriouse consideration for moving out of this horrible state.
