Just noticed on my Torque app my Ranger's timing varies between 6º on start-up, moving to around 18º after about 30 seconds at idle. It shows 24º when coasting and 38º when running under a light load. The manual says "not adjustable" which is OK if these readings are normal.

The Cam Position Sensor was replaced about 3000 miles ago.

Any input would be appreciated

Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.
That depends.

Do you time every day?

Do you wake up after timing, and not remember what you did?

Do you ever miss work because of your timing?

If "yes", there may be a problem. The first step, is admitting that there's a problem . . .

We're here for you, brother.

Your ECM adjusts the timing as needed, I don't know the low and highs, but if it runs OK then it's doing its job.

"not adjustable" means you cannot adjust the timing.
the computers constantly adjust the timing for best results.

Thanks for responding - Usually have to crank 2 or 3 times before it starts, cold or hot (except with a full tank and a cold start - then it normally fires up immediately).

Runs really well once I get going - pulls well even with 2000lbs of rocks in the bed, no hesitation, doesn't die when idling.

As I first stated, if these timing indications reported by my Torque app are normal, I'll leave it alone. I was concerned as 38 degree advance seems a bit severe.
