As the title says, do they have check engine lights? I've read that only MAF vehicles had them and then I read another thread saying that 88 2.9s do have CEL.

Anyways I do have codes on my truck but no check engine light on. Should it be? Need to know before I go to emissions testing.

Most of the pre OBD2 vehicles get a sniff test and not just a computer code test. Most places don't have OBD1 test equipment and it is too easy to remove the check engine light bulb. (which the PO may have done.) If you have codes you should try to fix them first to have a better chance of passing.

The correct answer is "it depends".

From 86 up they all had the slot and the wiring in the cluster for the CEL. Not all of them had a bulb installed there. The only real way to be sure is to remove the cluster and see if the hole is open or if it was never cut out for the bulb.

If it is closed up and you want a light you can just cut the hole open with a razor and put a bulb in there.

Light not showing on dash. Shouldn’t it be in the section where seat belt light is?

Yes...,bottom left corner IIRC.

Neither of my 87's had one.

Seat belt light comes on but none other. Bulb looks ok, but how do I check eec if that’s cause?

Thank you all for responses today. I’m getting no spark, so guess I’ll change gears and reassemble some parts I’ve done.
