Hi All-

I recently purchased a 1990 Ranger to race in the 24 hours of lemons. It was my buddy's brother's car and has previously completed races. I've done a ton of reading on the forums. One thing I'm trying to understand is the difference between the 90 spindles and the 95-97 spindles. Why does everyone that does a brake upgrade use the newer spindles? I've purchased 4 caliper wilwoods and plan to run the 13" Cobra rotor. Based on all the information I've read, it looks like we should machine down a 95-97 rotor to slide inside of the Cobra rotor? We'll then measure and Fab everything afterwards. I've got some other fun things in store for the truck. I'll post photos as we build.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
The 95 spindle has bolt on caliper brackets. The older ones have slide pins and there are ears that will be in the way of 13” rotors.

Thank you. We're planning on pulling knuckles at a pick-n-pull this weekend. This is helpful.

The 95-97 knuckles are set up for bolt on calipers like Sno said. The only difference I ever found in the spindle itself is a cut out for a front wheel speed sensor.

I believe the flange on the ABS spindles is slightly larger. This only matters in relation to the dust cover behind the spindle... the dust cover from non-ABS spindles is too small to fit over the newer ones. Found this out replacing a dust cover that rusted away.

Thanks for the advice. Being a racecar we’re going to remove the dust covers. I haven’t seen a radial mounted caliper conversion, but I don’t see any reason it shouldn’t work.
