Not sure where to put this but here go nothing.......

I have someone in my off-road club that has acquired a Diesel Escort with a spare engine. He is building a Suzuki trail truck that was going to be powered by a 2.8 from a Ranger. His idea is to bolt the FWD escort diesel engine to the Ranger 2.8L manual trans, if possible.

Question is, what bellhousing bolt pattern does the Escort diesel have ??
What bellhousing bolt pattern did the Ranger diesel have ??

iirc the diesel escort blocks have the same bolt pattern as the 1.9 cvh, which from what i have heard, shares enough of the bolt pattern with the 2.3 lima that it will bolt up to a 2.3 tranny

theres not much information out there on the 2 deisels used in the rangers. you might have to contact some manufacturers or just do some experimenting yourself to figure out what bolts to what.

keep in mind there were 2 different deisels used that likely used 2 different bolt patterns.

i wouldnt think the 1.9 would share a bellhousing with the 2.3 we're all famillier with. the 2.3 used in the tempos is a completely different engine than the one used in rangers, mustangs, pintos, etc. :dunno:

I think the 1.9L shares more in common with the tempo 2.3 then the rest of the line up, seeing as how i believe the escort and tempo used the same trannys, so i would guess they would have the same bolt patterns.

FWD car = 3.0 bell pattern. Which means, 3.0 M5OD or A4LD.

they use more than just the same transmissions. the escort and tempo use the same platform...the tempo is just stretched a little.

lol, what? not all FWD cars and engines use the vulcan bolt pattern. i know for a fact that the 1.9 and 3.0 have different and non-interchangeable bolt patterns.

you know what though, the deisel used in the escort was mazda built...i think your best bet would be to focus on the 83-84 rangers with the mazda deisel as its probably your best bet for a matching transmission.
