So I recently purchased an HP dana 44 and a FF dana 60 that came from a 79 250.
I am going to be shorting both the axles to fit under my ranger.

I have the dana 44 shorting process down no problem as I have done one with my bro.

For the Dana 60 I will have to purchase new axle shafts anyways because I am shorting the axle. I also have to buy a new carrier for 4.56 and up (because I am re-gearing to 5:38) so knowing this I might as well upgrade to 35 spline shafts and ditch the 30 splines

With the new carrier I will be buying new Spiders to accept the 35 spline
The only other thing I can think of would be to bore out the Spindles to 1.56 right to accept the bigger shafts. (I think my spindles are actually already wide enough for them though but I will need to measure for sure)

So If your still following me... Anything major that I missed?
I appreciate the time!

No you got it. Just bore the housing if you have to and buy axles and carrier.

Front 60's are 35 spline, so you might be able to pick up a used carrier from one of the Chevy cucv guys for cheap. You can also pick up a used front 60 locker from someone...

He's talking about the spindles on the end of the tubes. 60hd and the newer 60U danas are already large enough and don't need to be drilled/enlarged. It takes a lot of time and a couple of drills to enlarge the spindles, so I recommend taking them to a machine shop. Fyi, the 60U axles have 32 spline shafts stock. I have two of those axles, and will be upgrading to 35 spline shortly....

OK ya the spindles. I was thinking he meant something else when he said housing. But so ya I will take them too a machine shop if need be.
Thanks!

I would dump the old style d60 and get a d60u. Boring spindles out sucks and clearance wise those o es suck.

How much more clearance would you get with a d60u?

quite a bit ill grab a tape measure tomorrow and compare it with the front d60 and my superduty's front d60. It was an 1-1.5" if memory serves right. The d70u's have more clearance than an old school d60 for perspective.
