Dana 35 TTB seal identification...

Guys I'm replacing the ball joints on my Dana 35 TTB. When I removed the spindles and pulled the shafts out there are seals on the shafts I'm trying to identify. Mine are torn and dry rotted.

On the Dana 35 parts diagram in the tech library I'm looking at #69, part number 40930. Crosses to a different number but I'm having a hard time believing it lists for 22$??? Am I looking at the right part?

Found it. Outer axle dust seal. Found a number on the old one and crossed it.

I believe you can get the whole kit from RockAuto, BCA NBSBK4 is the part number, that is for a spindle bearing kit. There are two seals you can get individually too, TIMKEN 722109 (inner) and TIMKEN 722108 (outer.)

Used to be able to get a kit from Dana with all that too, can't find it at the moment.

Ooooooooooooooooooooh THAT part... sorry, I was thinking the rubber dust seal that rides against the back of the spindle.

You have got me thinking. What is the purpose of that seal anyway? To keep grease from migrating from the slip yoke and onto the U-joint, or what? I actually do not recall ever seeing that but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. Does it go inside the female end of the slip yoke?

I've not had that particular seal on mine since 2004, and the whole time it's been fine (last time I had things apart there was maybe 5 years ago). That seal is actually inside of the axle slip-yoke boot (pt# 71, 40929) so yeah that area is already protected from dirt, water, & mud. I wouldn't worry about it missing.
