are all Dana 35 front 4x4 manual hub nuts the same? (seems they would be) for all size trucks that have D-35.

when torque to 150+ the inner nut wants to spin, the retainer ring wants to ride up on the spindle. (the warn ring stretched, the Highway ring threaded)

I fashioned a spanner wrench to hold the inner still while torque outer :icon_idea:

hub seal O-ring and lock/retainer washer are hard to find. (lately only as part of a "kit")

question; a. anyone else have this issue?
question; b. if the spanner and retainer washers were available, would they be worth anything to you?

The Dana 44 is the same nuts and washer. i have used them when I did my EX's, Explorer(auto to manual). Come to think about it I used them on my own Explorer when I replaced them. A lot cheaper than the "conversion" kits.
I have had the same problem on the passenger side of my Explorer. I, unfortunately, just keep checking the nuts.

Torque the outer nut to 250 ft lbs and they will not come loose anymore.

He's speaking of the locking washer between the two nuts jumping the groove in the spindle and allowing the whole thing to rotate with the outer nut while trying to tighten it.

Though I haven't had the issue myself, I've seen it come up from time to time here. You might do a search in the Axles section. A common fix is to weld a bit of metal onto the washer and then reshape it with a file (or a Dremel works good) so the tab rests much deeper down into the slot.

And yes, the outer nuts on these do need more than the 150ft-lbs if they're to stay tight reliably.

Right, thanks guys.
The first 3 years after I did the conversion to manual Had no problems, after a break job things started the "keeps getting loose"
I went to 240 tq at one time and that lasted a few months, it also forced the washer and inner nut to turn = too tight on bearing and jammed washer tab.
With the spanner on the inner nut, I can put more tq on the outer without the turning.

The bottom line of the problem is the ring, ID is too large by just enough - in combination with the tab being a little short.
-- the warn ring stretched, the other brand literally threaded the tab.
I am in the process of drawing it up (cad) to send to a Laser Cutter, if the price is right I will have a few made, that is With the smaller ID and larger tab, (just be certain it fits )
