D44 high steer w/10bolt parts?

As the title says,

Can I use the spindle and brake parts from a 10 bolt front end on my D44 high steer knuckles?

If you want to keep the 6 lug setup then yes. Assuming the knuckles you have also use the 6 stud spindle.

I know all about the 5 lug conversion, but I still need a backing plate and spindles, just wondering if the 10 bolt ones would work.

Depends on the hat size of the 10 bolt rotors. Not all chevy 10 bolt or 44 backing plates will work. Only some FSJ 44 stuff will work. The only way to know for sure is to measure the hat size of the rotor on the 10 bolt and compart to the 5 lug hat size. If it's the same, it will work, if the 10 bolt uses the shallow hat rotors, it will NOT work. The spindles won't work either for the 5 lug conversion, they use the larger bearings. You must get the small bearing 44 spindles from a chevy or FSJ. No others will work.

Ill have to measure my five lug rotors before I hit the yard.

Theres a couple of ten bolt front ends at the JY right now.

You can use the 10bolt stuff If you turn down the bearing diameter on the spindle and use the chevy stub shafts.

Or you can just get some chevy44 spindles and then use all the brake stuff from the 10 bolt.

The 10 bolt has big bearing spindles and the D44 has small bearing spindles. I guess FSJ stuff should be the same as the chevy stuff with small bearing spindles, but I havent researched much on that yet.

Im probably just going to turn down the spindle, I have access to a lathe and could do it for free.

This is to run a ford 5x5.5 rotor and hub on the chevy stuff.

hmm, 10-bolts have bigger bearings, does that make it stronger than a d44 at the spindle?

So you can swap any d44 spindle onto the chevy 10-bolt knuckles?

post some pics of the procedure, even the lathe work. I miss having a lathe to work on.

are most 10bolts the high steer kind (flat top)?

I'm wondering, cause I know 10-bolts are like a dime a doz, and I've always heard that everything from the knuckles out was the same as d44. it seems like a very cheap way to get a high steer setup.

10 bolt doesnt have high steer knuckles, but the rest of the stuff bolts on fine.

Like I said further up though, not all 10 bolt backing plates will work for this swap. Unless you don't care and are keeping the 6x5.5" pattern or 8x6.5" pattern. You need to find the 10 bolt with the same hat size as your 5x5.5" rotors. Some are narrower and won't work.
