Tomorrow is June 6, the 66th anniversary of the D Day landing at Normandy.

I was in Gettysburg, PA this past week observing the battlefield on which the USA has suffered the most casualties of any battle ever. In 1994 I was at Normandy. I was a member of the Marine Security Guard Detachment assigned to American Embassy Paris. I was appointed Color Sergeant by our then detachment commander Master Gunnery Sergeant Ryan. I selected a number of fellow marines, male and female, who traveled around France with me bearing the colors of the United States of America and we participated in many ceremonies. Many were the liberation of various towns throught France. Many were battles, such as at Normandy. We were always met with respect, given excellent accomodations, and treated by the French as royalty.

And the Marines never participated in a single European action in WWII. But we did present the colors at Belleau Wood, and the adjacent American Cemetary. Many Americans don't realize that there are a number of American cemetaries in Europe. Mostly form WWI.

But the point of this post is to recognize that Johnny has gone marching off to war, worn many uniforms and fought in many places. Both at home, and abroad. We have not lacked courage. Whether hearing the bullets hammering on the front of the landing craft, or hearing the cough of the cannister releasing it's deadly cargo of iron pellets--Americans have stood firm and toed the line with much greater reliability than any other nation.

We, more than any other nation, know what is at stake. We may be over fed, over paid, over sexed and over here, but we are also unafraid to defend those "overs".

God Bless America and may our, and our following generations be as selfless as our previous ones have been.

My great grandpa was in the Normandy invasion. Came back with grenade schrapnel in his legs and 3 bullet holes in his gut. Family says if a train went by or a plane flew over, he would jump under the bed or table. But even with all that he still got up every morning to raise the flag in the front yard no matter what. His son, my Grandpa who was in the Army between WW2 and Korea still raises the flag every morning.

I spend the last hour and some change watching a program about the Civil War and how brutal it was. Oh, and four years ago I pinned on my first stripe in the Air Force. (6-6-06, unlucky???)

I couldn't help but think about ALL of the men who have shed blood to keep this country going. ARGH!!! Now we have asshats wanting to shed innocent blood to make this country theirs....

Holy f*ck, I just got VERY patriotic.

(Excuse me, I'm going to go beat up a liberalistic bastard...)

This day has always been held near to me. No, i am not in the military but i sure am extremely thankful for the sacrifice made for me and everyone else in this nation. I was fortunate enough while in the boy scouts to have a scoutmaster that gave a hoot about military history. The man was in the army and ran his scout troop as one. We went camping and the troop wore camo the entire time. most every camping trip we went on was to a battlefield or close to something war related. I learned a lot about WW1 WW2 vietnam, korea and mostly civil war. I learned enough thru scouting and veterans i have met to put my history teachers in school to shame in historical accuracy. this might sound more geared twords memorial day, but I have always been intrigued by d-day. Sometimes the smallest things spark a memory and i just felt like sharing. Thanks for listening!

God Bless our veterans! Keep that flag a flyin!

Right behind you. I've got piano wire, duct tape, and a few pair of ripe stinky socks to help knock them out.

A Ranger bed should hold 6 or 7 whole bodies?
