does anybody know what the purpose is of the crossmember looking thing under the radiator in a 92 ranger? it looks like it might collect radiator fluid that might leak, but my point is thast i want to take it off or modify it because its very asymetrical and dips way down low, thus decreasing my ground clearance, will it be okay to remove???

You mean the lower core support? Those are generally good to keep around. I think it keeps the radiator from falling out.

Your front I-beams should hang lower than the core support though. It should be a primary limiting factor in your ground clearance.

Pics would be helpful.

he's talking about the one in front of the steering box....it protects the pitman arm and steering box from bumping into curbs.

The only thing affecting your ground clearance is your front/rear diffs. The only true way to modify your ground clearance is with bigger tires, hence the need for lift, to clear the tires. You may be able to adjust your approach angle by modifying that beam, but the risk isnt worth the profit.

If your talking about the one directly below the radiator I cut that out two years ago to make my winch fit flush with the stock bumper.I braced it with angle iron across the body mounts and had to make new radiator mounts.Ive had no ill affects but i am a throttle up wheeler.
