Sibling rivalries are forever.

Can a 2wd Ranger with a rear locker keep up with a Subaru Outback?

I checked the dimensions and the Ranger matches or beats the Subie in approach, break over, and departure angles.

It's the traction. Will a locker give it enough to go on trails you'd feel comfortable taking an Outback on?
boa...vs ground clearance. not the same.

given this context.

2wd ranger is useless.

2wd ranger with a locker no lift and oem size tires.... has a bit better then a snowball in hells chance.

2wd locked ranger with 31 or larger aggressive tires has a fair chance.

2wd locked ranger with 31 or larger aggressive tires and 4 in lift is fiddy fiddy.

The biggest thing to remember when wheeling a 2wd...

PICK YOUR LINE

A smart guy in a 2wd can do better then a dumb guy in a 4wd.

bullshit......going to pick a 6 mile long line between 3 rivers and two valleys.
