Lord God is my guardian
Was out for a bit today, and noticed my tachometer was a little wonky. I stopped at shell for some fuel, and it started right up and I pulled into a parking spot to answer a message on my phone. The engine was idle for 2 minutes and it died. Would not start, cranks over strong, yet no start. Had it towed back to my house and it's inside the garage. To begin a look, I replaced the icm..spare motorcraft, cranks no start. I replaced the ecm, pcm whatever the correct term is..nothing...spare motorcraft. I believe it's the distributor. It was replaced around 5-7 years with a aftermarket one.

Can anyone help with, as I need some advice. With my health and major heat this weekend, I won't be able to work on it much. I do have a spare oem distributor. It will be going to my mechanic on monday..I need some help with this.

The fuel pump is working as I hear when I turn on the key.

Thanks 😊

Do the 50/50 test. Spray in starting fluid and see what happens. No fire and its electrical...

Possibly the tfi module on the distributor? Last time it did this was around 5 years ago and it the icm. Been good since until today. I don't have starting fluid, and no way to get to the auto parts store to buy any.

Pretty much any flammable liquid in a can will do. Just checking for spark ignition.
And yes the modules can go bad too.
Have you check for spark at the plug? Pulled plug and ground it, then turn over and watch for spark.
Maybe turn engine over first then pull plug and see if its wet with gas....

I usually end up using brake cleaner on my small engines cause that's what I have around.

My mechanic did a thorough inspection on my ranger to find the issue, and he found it.

It was the ignition coil. He installed another motorcraft coil, and it starts quick and strong again as it should.

Appreciate those who offered advice.
