Cranks no start after checking fuel pressure.

I checked my fuel pressure with a new gauge I just bought but after using it my truck won't start. It ran fine before so im wondering if I bumped something or if there is some sort of safety device that engaged preventing it from starting. When I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump engage. Also if I press the schrader valve gas will squirt out.

Also, the first time I tried to hook up the pressure gauge I didn't have it threaded very tight and gas spilled out. Maybe that triggered something?

It's for a 2000 4.0 engine

Turn the key on then off 3 or 4 times, with out starting the engine. You may have released the pressure. Each time you turn the key the pump runs for 2 seconds and builds up 10 lbs pressure. For a 1997 and earlier you need at least 30 to start. 40 is spec. For 98 and up 70? is spec...

No, no safety device

As said try cycling the key on and off a few times

Coil pack is in that general area, make sure its 4 wire connector is tight

Thanks. Finally got it started. Had to cycle the key like 6 or 7 times. Usually it would only take a couple. I checked my fuel pressure and it starts out at around 55 but quickly drops. Now to track down that cause. It seems to run fine other than that. But I am getting a lean trouble code.

If you don't smell gasoline then the only place you can lose fuel pressure on a 1998 and up is in the gas tank
The Fuel pump and the Fuel Pressure Regulator(FPR) are both on the assembly in the gas tank

As said 55-65psi is spec for 1998 and up Rangers
15-20psi less will set Lean Codes while running

When I turn on the key the pressure reads ~50 then slowly drops to 35, but holds there. When the engine is running the pressure is 65. Also I don't know if my gauge is working properly. I got it from Amazon and the o-ring is all chewed up on one of the connector fittings.
