Tighten it until it snaps then back off a 1/4 turn
Has anyone tried to put a Gen 3 Coyote and 10spd in a 05 and up Ranger?

There is a guy on youtube who did it in a 89-91. But not much info on it from what I remember. It should be about the same as a 4.6

Definitely need to do some hacking to cram one of those things in a 98+ ranger. Never seen it done but would be neat.

I think this ^^^ article is about a different truck than I pictured. It looks like a different intake and valve covers.

Most of the pictures are long gone, but here's the original build thread on the one above.

I don't know if A/C was ever reinstalled. Apparently the owner sold it after about 900 miles based on comments toward the end.

Alot of engine for a small truck, lol

Over head cams just make it too wide for Ranger engine bay

5.0l Coyote runs about 400HP but can go up to 460HP

A 302 OHV fits in a Ranger engine bay better and you can build it cheaper up to 350-400HP without losing anything like a heater, lol, or AC

Article here: https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/28898-400-hp-302-small-block/
But there are many more build a 302 articles around
Like this one: https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/make-503hp-with-a-350-junkyard-302/
IMO, its money better spent

Nice looking V8 conversion here: https://www.therangerstation.com/forums/index.php?threads/95-351-ranger.195046/

The issue, of course, is that to legally put the 302 in a Ranger requires a 2001 or older Ranger and those are getting hard to find.

The way to go on the newer ones, imho, is a 2.7L EcoBoost, but its a huge project due to no Ford crate engine / pcm availability.

Why? To all of that? State laws vary on engine swap rules and most states are perfectly legal to swap engines around willy nilly. He's talking about a coyote which is a modern engine like the 2.7. Why does the year 2001 matter, OBD2 standards are from 1996? I'm not being a jerk I'm honestly curious what law your referring to and why you say 2001?

Rubydist's comment about the 302 was responding to Ron's suggestion of the OHV engine rather than the Coyote. And 2001 was in reference to the newest Explorer swap (since it can't be swapped from an older vehicle to a newer one by federal standards).

Ahhh ok. I was gonna say even here in NJ I can toss a 302 in my 2009 as long as it's 1996 or newer and still has the OBD2 system. Some states don't even have emissions testing at all so you can really do whatever. Here, as long as it passes the OBD2 checks they don't care what engine is in it. I edited my original post to sound less like a jerk lol. I was honestly just confused by that.

You'd always be taking a risk by the federal standards, but as long as they're not enforcing those it's a safe swap.

Yeah its a federal standards issue, and many places have emissions testing and/or physical inspections where they care about that stuff.

Thats where you need 2 identical rangers, a fun one with the V8 and the stock one to get the “sticker” (pass whatever test) . It would have absolutely no power but I always thought it would be cool to have a big flathead 4 in a ranger, perhaps from a side distributor 8N. Even a ohv 134/172/192 would be interesting. Maybe a flathead V8? still have that look but more easier to drive.

I always thought a 300 straight six would be a cool ranger engine. Probably have to hack the firewall to get one of those long bastids to fit though.

You can get a 460hp 5.0 factory stock out of a newer Mustang.... then add tune and boost and go from there. They can make incredible power. A factory pushrod Ford 5.0 block starts running the risk of splitting in half around 400hp.

Coyote is huge... so is a 2.7. IMO 2.3 would be the way to go.

But as time marches on it becomes much harder to swap newer trucks and still have everything work so it is becoming less and less of an issue.

Guys have swapped DOHC 4.6's into Ranger and they don't really fit that bad, I wouldn't think a Coyote would be much bigger.
