My son and I go to car shows and the Northeast Street Rod Nationals every year. I like to see good workmanship and clever builds, I've seen way too many 30's and 40's Fords with SBC's(orange painted grenades) in them. Last June at Carlisle, we saw a PInto wagon with a dual Stromberg flathead in it that looked almost factory- other than all the polished aluminum. I've seen 35 Ford convertible with a 427 SOHC, a 79 F150 with a 429(I know, a 460 could have been ordered in it but it had a 351M), a Sunbeam Tiger with a (sloppily done) 390, and a late 50's/early 60's Jeep Cab Over pickup with a 401 Buick nailhead. I also installed a 78 Mustang 2.8 with a 89 Mustang T5 and a radically narrowed 8 inch rear into a 66 Sunbeam Alpine. Of all these, the Pinto flathead was the coolest and the 35 Ford cammer was definitely the fastest.

Cummins 555 V-8 in late 70s F-350 done in early 80s would be up there (God, it was nose heavy).

I seen a 300 I6 on an old 8N once at threshers. Didnt see it run but the guy said it pulls like a freight train.

I dont know what engine it is, but I seen a street rod with some sort of chrysler V8, it had this weird intake with 2- 4 barrel carbs- but heres the kicker, the carburetors were outside the valve covers! Must of been in a big car as wide as it was.

In the early 60's some Mopars had dual quads on long runner intakes that hung over the valve covers, I think on 383's, 413's, and 426's. A car magazine back in the day swapped the prior year's inline dual quad manifold onto an engine that came with the cross ram setup and it went faster in the quarter. The cross ram looked cool, it just didn't work very well.

Wasnt it just the 413/426 wedge stuck into the 300 letter cars?

I do remember hearing of those or seeing pics, dont recall seeing one in person though.

That Id like to see. There is a corvair I see at local shows that they have put on another chassis, is a front engine now, sits nose high on a front straight axle like a gasser. Ugly car but I appreciate their creativity.

The one I saw was a big block but I don't remember if it was a B(383) or RB (413/426). It was prior to throttle cables and the linkage setup would have made Rube Goldberg proud. Those long, exposed runners must have made them run like crap in sub zero weather- the fuel would have trouble staying vaporized.

A friend of mine has a K5 blazer with a turbo 6.0L LS and a turbo 400 trans, that thing is silly, it's on like 36" boggers and does crazy stuff, it's kinda hacked in there but whatever, works good :), I think he said 600ish hp to the tires... I think around 10lb boost.

I knew a guy had a K5 with 8 ( i think, it was way up there) inches of lift on narrow 33's. Street driven. It only had a stock 350 but it looked like a 30mph wind gust would blow it over sitting still.

To his credit though he always kept the shiny side up.
