My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Spent some time today cleaning and restoring a carbide miners lamp that has been passed down through my family from several generations ago, when some of my relatives worked in the anthracite coal mines in and around Hazleton, PA. I still need a few parts for it. But it works. Should make a fun head lamp for Camping as long as I don't get it too close to tent fabric.

Cool. So carbide lamp uses what for fuel? I want to say acetylene...
Need to shine up the reflector. Or glue mirror in a reverse disco ball.

You are correct.
Calcium chloride + water = acetylene. It's what all the cool kids are burning, if they aren't burning white gas.

I did polish it with Brasso. I could do some more. I have a feeling the chrome plating is getting thin. Some of what you see seems to be pitting. I'm pretty happy with it the way it is.

I have one of those too, I think it is past resurecting.

The carbine canister goes on your belt and there is a hose that runs to the headlamp. Then you can snag the hose on something, pull it off and spray acetylene everywhere.

That sounds fun. Brings a whole new meaning to lighting farts.

I don't have old stuff, but if I'm camping for more than 2 days a shower bag is my cool item. Also gets hot in the sun...like really hot!

Here is a collection of my camping gear and my review of each.

^ Instagram marketing got me on this one. It is cool but does take up valuable space. This rarely makes it on a camping trip since I've gotten a metal firepit that breaks down flat. It's great to have when you are camping somewhere that does not allow you to have a fire pit directly on the ground.

^ I have used this now and it is very convenient! Make sure you label it clearly, so no one mistakes it for something to drink out of.

^This portable cooler is the newest to my collection. This is an affordable portable cooler, and the best part is that this model has a battery that will last up to 4 hours. I have only used it on one overnight camp trip, but it was perfect. I also bring it to my son's little league baseball games and serve popsicles out of it. It has two compartments that each can be fridges or freezers. It comes with a small cutting board, has a USB connection and is Bluetooth.

^ I've camped when it was in the low 20's and have never been more comfortable. Best sleeping bag I've ever had.

I love to camp and I have a lot of gear. Mostly tent camping and backpack oriented. Too much to post here and do any kind of review on since I would probably dominate the thread.

I do have some big plans for the 2019 and setting it up for overlanding for two people. That will get posted up in the build thread or I may make a separate one relevant to this section. Probably the latter makes more sense.

It's going to cost good amount of money. And since my eyeballs may be bigger than my wallet, I'll only post up what I actually got and setup.

This was my answer for overlanding. Minutes up or down... no air mattress or a separate cot. I'm still sad I had to cancel my trip last year and didn't even get to use it. Looking forward to this year's trip... but honestly... if my load out leaves space to sleep in the bed of the truck... I might not use it this year either.

The only problem with those is they are known to fold up randomly in the middle of the night...
