I had no floor covering in my '86, my F150, and my 2 door Explorer. I put vinyl in the '86 from ^ that place and I like it. F150 got junkyard carpet. The Explorer will probably not get anything.

No floor covering is OK but you get a lot of road/engine noise. Floor will get hot from the exhaust. Any wiring that's under the carpet is now exposed and susceptible to damage when you step on it. If you care about noise and temperature control, put something over the floor.

You could take your current carpet to the car wash and pressure wash it. I have done that many times with some really nasty old carpet that turned out looking pretty good. Just let it dry in the sun for about a week...halfway through flip it over so the other side drys out and hang it on something.

i would wash it, too.

but we have gotten trucks with vinyl flooring and gotten carpet remnants from the store and cut it to fit also. you get way more color options getting remnants from a home carpet place but get the short rough commercial type carpet so it withstands your boot heel digging into the same spot all the time

I've had a couple trucks where the carpet was just 2 hallway runners overlapped under a bench seat. I didn't even notice till I started taking things apart.
