I'm working on a 2004 ranger 4.0 and getting the evap code. I replaced the vacuum line from the purge valve on the drivers side fender to the intake with a new line. and the code was still present. so I made a trip to my buddy's and got a different purge valve..

the one on my truck mounts by sliding a rubber piece over a mounting tab and the one from my buddy's place is like the one in the pic below. other than the mounting would they be the same? he says he got this one from oreilly auto parts just wondering if they were a difference in them.

i see the 2 large tubes, one would go to the charcoal canister, the other to the vac line on the intake. what i don't see on mine is were the small line would go 2?

frustrated and welcoming any assistance ,,

The little threaded one looks like it is a test port. Does it have a schrader valve in it? The very little one looks like it's for manifold vac. Can't think why an electric solenoid would need vacuum right there.

I agree the threaded one would be a test port what i don't get is the small one. the one on my truck is completely different than the pic.

i'll go grab my deer spotlight and try to get a pic of the one that's on my truck now not sure i can as dark as it is i have it parked outside.... brb,

ok not sure if this will help but here's the one that's on my truck showing how it's mounted..

that is if that is what i'm looking at since they don't look the same???

That will do it. I love evap codes, so easy to diag. Smoke machine and Evap test do most of the work.

lol instead of making a new thread i thought i would just use this one. .

i got the code p0455 on my 2.3 (I had noticed occasional loss of power then it would return) then it started to idle high.. i replaced the idle air control valve and that fixed the high idle. however the occasional slight loss of power is still there...

I've ruled out everything but the pcv.. would that be a possible culprit? and these two hoses.. one has a slight notch on it so I'm going to tape it up and see what happens.. the other appears to be cracked and worn so i will replace it..

I already have the pcv but can't seem to get the little lock off to replace it (it won't turn either direction and i can't pull out the valve) . its really frustrating to not be able to fit any tool there. and i don't want to break the plastic because i may not be able to get it off. any suggestions for removal would be greatly appreciated.

Nonetheless. in the case i cannot replace the pcv, i just wanted to be sure that the pcv was not the problem indicated by the code. thx a lot guys.
