No. Stop using the Wikipedia generations, they are wrong.

83-88 was gen 1, 89-92 was gen 2, 93 to 97 was gen 3, 98+ just wasn't really worth having.
Not trying to start an argument, just asking a question to straighten out my own thinking!

I had a 2000 Ranger many years ago, and recently bought a '94, so I'm learning Ranger-speak all over again. Using what you posted, wouldn't:
  • 83-88 = Gen 1
  • 89-92 = Gen 2
  • 93-94 = Gen 3
  • 94-97 = Gen 4
Just asking, because wouldn't the change to the interior combined with the change to OBD2 almost constitute a major change from the previous year? I know other than that, there was basically nothing else changed (other than maybe some colors, etc), but the OBD2 change seems to be a huge thing. Or would that not be enough to consider that a generation change? I know it didn't end up that way, just wondering why.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!

Ranger generations are pretty much based on the front end... each redesign is a new generation.

Ford's official "generations" last 5 model years. The gen3 Rangers were a little screwy because the OBDII change over happened mid-run.

And like Sno said, after 98 it gets sketchy again, because there were so few major changes and so many minor running changes.

Well a "generation" is 20-30years, so there is technically only one generation as said, RED Ranger generation

The 2019/20 is 2nd generation, but only if they are RED, of course
