Good morning folks.

My Explorer 5.0, 2001 ripped nicely in the driveway yesterday at its first carbureted/HEI fire up and tune.
Later today, God willing, I may actually power the TCU and attempt a brief driveway test of the trans control.

So all has gone swimmingly as expected, I spend what is probably 100 hours contemplating the Explorer electrical manual and all interactions of devices.
No unwanted idiot lights, except the "THEFT" light. Now as I read, the theft light is an LED and as such is having its input go high to light it.
It has two paths for getting voltage.

1: PATS module
2: RAP module.

Now I would like it to continue to operate based on RAP moudule input.
PATS is gone since there is no PCM to dialogue with from PATS module.

I would rather not simply reach in and cut SAID wire from PATS. I would prefer to delete PATS completely from the dash.

Caveat: I would rather NOT remove the I/P at all!!!!! I hate small spaces, big catchers mit sized hands.

Has anyone seen the PATS module and if I just remove the I/P, does it appear that I should be able to rather easily unplug the module to defeat the THEFT LED input?
Oh hell--- I remembered just now that I have a couple of backlight lamps out and need to remove the I/P to replace them. Dang it.

Anyway, Buehler, Buehler? Anyone seen or touched a PATS in late model Exp to know how much blood I will lose on the access?

Lastly, I have not spent much time behind the I/P, had it out once for some reason if I recall but was not paying attantion to this detail. I need to install a manual choke cable for the carburetor. I need to drill the firewall and if the I/P is coming out, then that is an ideal time and place to penetrate the wall. I think?????
Does anyone have a good visual memory if the firewall can be seen from the driver seat with I/P out? I can also punch through near the throttle cable penetration and that was my goto, but I would rather it be even higher on the firewall if possible so the I/P backside is appealing.

Thanks in advance for any memory sharing.

Mike

The Helms manual shows it on page 151, behind the left side of instrument panel. But that is pretty vague, a ton of crap is in there with it. My concern is it is behind the air vent or something stupid!

I stand corrected: you are right about the PATS location (I think!).
Was looking at the instrument panel drawing in Helms backwards. Front of car arrow was ignored. I missed the reference mark. Have been starring at the I/P drawing to hack into the Overdrive switch and realized--- Oh Crap, Im reversed.

Indeed it is right of the passenger side airbag, therefore it must be in or around the glovebox (ish) area.
Please forgive my inability to read.

2011Supercab needs a gift card or at least an expensive thank you.
Thank you $$$ Thank you $$$

Remove glove box
Remove two vertical screws retaining teh passenger airbag
Pull the air bag.
Behind and left, small black box mounted flat. Remove two screws from its bracket, pull the harness cable.
Reinstall airbag.

Had I known that was there and that I would need to remove the airbag, it sure would have made my Microsquirt harness install 100% easier.

I have not keyed up the ignition but I am pretty sure my theft light woes are over.
