Upgrading the heads and reusing the same rocker arm studs. Cannot find correct torque anywhere.

Does anyone know the correct torque for the Comp Cams 4504-16 Rocker Arm Studs?

Thanks!
Mark

Wouldn't the torque used for the original stock bolts work for the studs? They both are 5/16 thread into the head correct? The stock rocker bolts were 18-25 ft lbs.

55 ft lbs seems like a awful lot on a 5/16 bolt or stud.

Here's a link that has a universal torque values depending on the size of the fastener.

Thanks for the feedback. It's been very frustrating!

I found four recommended torques from four different sources (not including the various forums I asked for help on). A user on Summit racing stated 13 ft-lbs, a user on Amazon stated 50 ft-lbs for aluminum heads and 55 ft-lbs for cast iron heads, ARP (the maker of the Comp Cam Rocker Arm Studs) recommends 24-30 ft-lbs, and finally a Tech Support Rep at Comp Cams stated, based on his experience, that a 5/16" bolt/stud should be torqued to 30-35 ft-lbs. Not one source provided the actual torque for this specific product.

Since the original stock bolts were torqued at 18-25 ft-lbs, and ARP recommended 24-30 ft-lbs, I decided to go with the Comp Cams Tech Support Rep's (and ARP) recommendation of 30 ft-lbs.

Hope this helps someone else who may be considering using these rocker arm studs.

Good choice. I would be very uncomfortable putting 50+ ft lbs on a 5/16 bolt, stud, or even the threads in the head.
