Have returned to the classic lift guide every once in a while to discern good advice for lifts on these trucks, but can't seem to find much information on people's opinions on ride quality + comfiness. I love a bouncy suspension, and while I know any lift is going to stiffen the ride up a little, does anyone have any tips/ kits they loved or would want to avoid?

If you must buy a kit, Duff is by far the best riding out of the ones I've used (Rough Country, Skyjacker and Duff.) My buddy had their top of the line one in his 89 and it was really nice to drive. Skyjacker was a very distant second.

Is there an advantage to piecing together my own lift instead of buying a kit?

Price, if you can find deals on all of the parts individually.

If you have preferences for certain parts, like radius arm brackets integrated into transmission crossmember or not, you can do that easier.

Otherwise, no.

Deengineer until it is how Blue Oval should have sold it!!
@spaceranger ,
I have riden on Trailblazer, James Duff LLC, Rough Country and Pro Comp Ranger suspension lifts. There are several factors, some are constants, they need to be identified to see the big picture of ride control.

Q: What is the suspension constantly trying to do?
A: keep the tires to the ground.

Tire size, inflation pressure, ambient temp and the surface being driven on, let alone sidewall height, lift, type of springs, vehicle weight and hydraulic valving in the shocks all play into this equation.

The most comfortable springs I've felt are Skyjacker Softrides. The best shock system is, hands down the dual 70/30 James Duff's; there is also room to discuss which actual lift if the best engineered, I vote Duff, though the Rough Country is a heck of a Bang for the Buck!!

If you desire a Cadillac ride, coil overs in the front with Air bags In back is the best I've felt.

Thanks for the reply y'all. Never dabbled much with lifts before so interesting to hear from the more seasoned.

Personally I would pick either Skyjacker or Duff.

Rough Country is a diff killer if you ever swap to a D35 front axle.
